Evolve Arts Festival are committed to limiting our impact on the planet by implementing waste reduction and management strategies throughout the festival as well as creating an event that is 100% carbon neutral. Evolve have many initiatives in practice at the festival including: Green tix, biodegradable cutlery, chemical free cleaning products and recycling stations managed by volunteers.
There are ample ways that you too can help make Evolve sustainable, by carpooling, jumping on the Evolve Bus that will be running between Belongil Fields and Red Devil Park, using the recycling centre at the festival and just by being aware of your own impact. Please help keep the Festival site beautiful for everyone's enjoyment by placing all rubbish in the appropriate recycling bins and 'bin your butts' in film canisters or portable ashtrays.

We have engaged the services of Cool Planet, to head us in the right direction of green action. Cool Planet’s objective is to help raise peoples understanding and commitment for action on climate change, we too are taking on this philosophy by ensuring that Evolve Arts Festival is 100% Carbon Free. We have chosen two carbon offsetting projects.

Energy Efficiency Lighting Installations
Compact fluorescent light (CFL) abatement projects that replace incandescent light bulbs are currently in full swing in Australia due to their ability to generate carbon credits under the government's Greenhouse friendly initiative. These projects generate reductions through the greater energy efficiency of CFLs over traditional incandescents. There's a variety of lighting energy efficiency projects across commercial, government and local government facilities via lower cost incentives, free installation and give-aways.
Lighting represents around 12 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions from households, and around 25 per cent of emissions from the commercial sector. The Australian government has said they are phasing out all incandescent light bulbs by 2012 and that will reduce Australia's greenhouse emissions by 4 million tonnes. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use around 20% of the power of standard light bulbs and generally last between 4 and 10 times longer. These projects are Australian based and are certified under the Australian Governments Greenhouse Friendly Program.

Regional Community Greenhouse Gas Abatement Project
The SMRC is a statutory local government authority established by 7 local Councils in the southern part of metropolitan Perth. It is responsible for developing environmentally sustainable waste management solutions and climate change abatement measures for the communities of Canning, Cockburn, East Fremantle, Fremantle, Kwinana, Melville and Rockingham. The SMRC operates two significant projects that achieve abatement of greenhouse gases: the Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC), and the Regional Community Greenhouse Gas Abatement Project. Between January 2006 and June 2007, these two programs prevented over 223,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents from entering the atmosphere equal to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 60,000 cars. Stopping the release of harmful greenhouse gas from landfill, and helping the community to live more sustainably were the driving forces behind the formation of the Regional Council. The RRRC is a $70 million fully-integrated community waste processing facility designed to ensure maximum diversion of domestic waste from landfill.
The RRRC waste processing facility diverts from landfill the household rubbish of more than 350,000 residents. When the disposal of organic matter to landfill is avoided by composting, methane emissions are abated. It is the net difference in emissions between dumping in landfill and composting that gives the SMRC the ability to sell carbon offsets. The process is independently audited under the stringent rules of the Australian Greenhouse Office’s Greenhouse Friendly verification program. Last year it won the Greenhouse Challenge Plus award for outstanding achievement in greenhouse gas abatement.
